How to Download and Install LOQMail for Windows on a USB Flash Drive
Recommended Windows System Requirements:
- Windows XP or Vista
- 500 MHz CPU
- 256 MB RAM
- 256 MB USB Flash Drive Storage
- Internet Connectivity
Steps to Install Portable LOQMail on a USB Flash Drive
- Subscribe & Download the Software
- If a new subscriber, create your LOQMail Account. If you already have a LOQMail account you may ignore this step.
- Record your LOQMail login and password
- Download the Portable LOQMail software here
(MD5 Checksum = 624efb2a7e6de7948173474f903a88f6)
- Copy the downloaded file to your USB.
- Execute the file. Depending on your download speed, the USB may take a few minutes to provision itself.
- Execute the PortableLOQMail.exe file in the root directory of your USB to start Portable LOQMail
Steps to Configure the Portable LOQMail Installation on a USB Flash Drive
- Prerequisites: Before you begin your setup, please make certain that you know your:
- Private LOQMail Email Address
- Private LOQMail password
- If this is the first time you have used LOQMail you can go to step 3. But, if your Private LOQMail Email Address is also in use on another device, you will need to backup your existing keys in order to import them into Portable LOQMail for use in this application as well:
- Start LOQMail on the device where you already have LOQMail installed, if LOQMail is not running.
- Right click on the WebLOQ icon in your System Tray and choose "Backup Keys."
- In the "LOQMail Copy Keys" Dialog which appears select your LOQMail user name, enter your password and click "next."
- In the "Copy To" directory dialog which appears, choose a backup location on your computer (preferably a folder on your "C" drive) and click "Save."
- Note the name and location where you backed up your keys. You will need this information later in the USB configuration process.
- Configuring LOQMail
- Insert your USB device and select the "WebLOQ Portable LOQMail" application from the automatically prompted menu. Alternatively, navigate to the USB device via Windows Explorer and activate the "PortableLOQMail.exe" application in the "WebLOQ" directory.
- If system asks to "unblock" or any other security question should respond "yes" or "allow".
- Once LOQMail starts, you will be prompted to satisfy the Login dialog box with your WebLOQ private email account and password.
- If this is the first time you have used this LOQMail account:
- When prompted, satisfy the Login dialog box with your WebLOQ private email account and password. If this is the only device where you have configured a LOQMail account; then you can proceed to Step 3; “configuring the provided Email Client (Mozilla Thunderbird).” Please note: If you have configured your account on a different device already, then a dialog box will popup warning you that you must install your keys.)
- If this is not the first time you have used this LOQMail account:
- Click on the install keys button and browse to your keys location.
- Select your keys to install them.
- You will be prompted to re-renter your password. Re-enter your password and click "OK."
- Configuring the provided Email Client (Mozilla Thunderbird)
- Click on the first icon in the LOQMail toolbar. The icon looks like this:

- You will be prompted to enter your private LOQMail address and a name for the account. Do this and click the "OK" button.
- The Email Client will restart with your new configured settings.
- That's it. Your setup is now complete. Send a test message to yourself to verify the proper functioning of your account.
- Click the "Write Private Email" button in the toolbar
- Type your new LOQMail Private Email Address into the "To:" field
- Enter any subject and message body you desire and click "Send."
- Enter your password for sending email when prompted (you can ask your password manager to remember this password to make subsequent sends easier).
- When you try and receive the email you just sent you will need to enter your password for receiving mail. (Again, you can ask your password manager to remember this password as well).
- By default, the client comes configured to send self-addressed emails into the "Local Folder/journal" subdirectory. Check the "Local Folder/journal" inbox to see if you received your self-addressed encrypted test email.
Anytime you exchange LOQMail Private Emails with another private email user, you will see the LOQMail notification window letting you know that the private email has been sent and received privately and successfully.
